Trekking, climbing, mountain biking. And also paragliding, canyoning, rafting, tennis, and horseback riding: Valle Anzasca is the ideal place for an active holiday filled with sports, walks, and fresh air.
Trekking and mountaineering
The Anzasca Valley is full of feasible paths for hikers and tourists with trails of varying length and difficulty.
For the more trained ones the tour of Monte Rosa is certainly the most fascinating trek, feasible in seven days: starting from Macugnaga, the tour runs across six valleys of Piedmont, Valle d'Aosta and Switzerland and consists of 9 stages, for a total length of 190 km.
Even the less experienced mountain climbers can find around Macugnaga numerous possibilities for hiking: the one that runs along the Valle del Rosa, in the Anzasca Valley, the one that crosses the Wildlife Oasis of Macugnaga, the tour of the mountain pastures and the excursions in the Quarazza Valley.
Winter in Macugnaga
Alpine skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding, ice climbing, snowshoeing: there are so many winter sports on offer from November until spring months in Macugnaga, on the East face of Monte Rosa.
Macugnaga is home to two major ski areas, Belvedere and Monte Moro (3000 m in altitude), a cross country trail of over 20 km, marked trails for snowshoeing.
Skiing and snowboarding
The two major ski resorts in Macugnaga, Belvedere and Monte Moro, are the ideal destination for lovers of skiing and snowboarding.
The alp Belvedere, that can be reached with the Pecetto chairlift, offers slopes suitable for both beginners and advanced skiers, to whom the three red runs of 1932 meters in height are reserved.
The summit of Monte Moro can be reached from the village of Staffa and provides blue, red, and the most challenging black ski runs, with altitude gaps of up to 1000 meters.
Snowshoeing
Winter transforms Macugnaga and Monte Rosa in an enchanted place, made of woods and snow-covered ancient villages, to be discovered with snowshoes.
There are many organized walks in the snow during the winter season near Macugnaga, including fascinating excursions in the moonlight.
The busiest routes are those that run in the Wildlife Oasis of Macugnaga, the one towards Alpe Burki, the path Macugnaga-Rifugio Zamboni Zappa and those offered by the wild Quarnazza Valley.
